It’s hard not to love baked potatoes, they are pretty awesome! The texture, the taste, the warmth… But bad baked potatoes are the worst: mushy, bland and very boring. So today, we are going to show you how to get the best fluffy, creamy and tasty potatoes!
How to Cook Easy Baked Potato
4 (12-ounce; 340g) potatoes, preferably russets
Canola, vegetable, or olive oil, for rubbing
1 stick unsalted butter (4 ounces; 114g), diced
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Toppings of your choice, such as grated cheddar cheese, crispy diced bacon bits, minced chives, sliced scallions, and/or sour cream
There are two approaches to cooking the potatoes, one uses a microwave and an oven, the other one only uses the oven.
1. Preheat at 375 F.
2. Poke the potatoes with a fork in several spots to let the steam out. Cover each potato with a light coat of oil. Place them on either a baking sheet or directly on the oven rack.
3. Cook for about an hour, a fork should easily be inserted through the center of the potato.
Microwave and oven version
1. Preheat at 450 F.
2. Poke potatoes with a fork in several spots. Microwave them for 5 minutes. Cover each potato with a light coat of oil. Place them on either a baking sheet or on the oven rack. Make sure to put something to catch the dripping oil if you put them straight on the rack.
3. Cook for about 20 minutes, a fork should easily be inserted into the center of the potato.
